Big Ten says fall sports will have conference-only schedules if season happens

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the Big Ten Conference says if the conference is able to participate in fall sports, then it will move to “Conference-only” schedules in those sports, based on medical advice.

The fall sports include football, cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball.

The statement adds, “Details for these sports will be released at a later date, while decisions on sports not listed above will continue to be evaluated.”

The Big Ten also says summer athletic activities will continue to be voluntary in all sports that currently allow activities, and that “Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored…and will remain in good standing with their team.”
