Big Blue Dragon Festival practices underway
Event raises money, funds for breast cancer
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — An annual competition is once again raising awareness for breast cancer.
The Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival will be returning to La Crosse this upcoming Friday and Saturday. Many Dragon Boat teams got out on the water on Saturday to practice their skills for the big day.
While the event and the races will be a lot of fun, competitors are keeping an eye on the goal of the festivities.
“This is a really big deal. You know, cancer is such a prevalent disease in our society and anything we can do to raise awareness and raise funds is something we should absolutely do,” said Winneshiek Medical Center Operation Manager Dave Rooney.
From exhibition races to activities for kids to live music, there will be plenty to do and see at next weekend’s event.
All the proceeds from the event will go towards programs on breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
