Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival names 2017 ambassador
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — An area breast cancer survivor is getting a special honor.
Every year, Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Healthcare honors a breast cancer survivor by naming them the ambassador for the Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival.
This year, Cathy Klug will serve as the festival’s ambassador.
She’s a retired teacher and two-time survivor of breast cancer who made her return to the dragon boat races last year after her second diagnosis.
Klug says the festival allows everyone to come out and show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
“There’s many people that have tears in their eyes, they’re not the ones with the breast cancer but they’re just so happy because it’s their mother or their grandma or their sister, and they’re alive and they’re there,” said Klug. “It’s overwhelming and it’s wonderful.”
The 5th annual Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival will take place on July 14th and 15th at Copeland Park.
