Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The 8th Annual Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival is canceled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayo Clinic Health System and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse made the decision to cancel the June 20 event due to the precautions advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to limit possible transmission of the virus.
“Everyone’s safety is of utmost importance to us,” said Heidi Odegaard, Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival event coordinator at Mayo Clinic Health System “Mayo Clinic Health System and the Boys & Girls Club expresses our appreciation to those who planned to paddle, volunteer, or donate in support of young people and breast cancer survivors in the community. Your efforts and ongoing support do not go unnoticed.”
The Big Blue Dragon Boat Festival Committee will begin refund team registration fees to the team member who made the team payment. Refunds will take at least five to seven days to process.
“The planning committee appreciates everyone’s participation in the event and looks forward to having our community help us ‘awaken the dragon’ in the future,” added Odegaard.
