Rising Temps Tonight
Bill Graul

Wednesday’s Forecast High: 20F / Tonight’s Low: 19F (rising temps overnight)…

It was much colder across the region this morning. Early morning temps were in the single digits above and below zero. Wind chills were in the -0s for most, but -10s in some spots near and north of I-94. We haven’t seen a morning this cold since December 18th, or about 3 weeks ago!

8 To 8 Forecast

Colder Today

Expect lots of sunshine this morning, then clouds will drift across the region from west to east later this morning into this afternoon. I can’t fully rule out a few flurries with these passing clouds. Highs will only be in the low-mid teens (north) to low-mid 20s (south). La Crosse should see a high temp right around 20F. This would be the first BELOW average high in La Crosse in 3 weeks!

Partly to mostly cloudy tonight, with breezy SE winds 10-20 and gusts to 30 mph possible. Low temps will likely be set this evening in the upper teens in La Crosse… with temps rising overnight. In fact, we could be in the upper 20s to near 30F in La Crosse by sunrise Thursday morning.

A storm system will track quickly across the Upper Midwest on Thursday, bringing a chance of light snow or wintry mix in the morning… then the precip will likely switch over to light rain showers in most areas. That’s because temps will likely climb into the upper 30s to mid 40s for afternoon highs. Snow showers could hang on a bit longer far north. It will remain a bit breezy Thursday with SE to S winds 10-20 and gusts to 25 mph possible.

Roller Coaster Ride In Temps Over Next 8 Days

Looking Ahead… Mostly cloudy and colder Friday through the weekend with highs mainly back in the 20s for most. A storm system tracking by to the southeast could clip parts of the area later Friday or Friday night with a chance of snow. As of now, the best chances for accumulating snow would be south/east of La Crosse… across eastern Iowa, southern and SE Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Stay tuned in case the storm tracks farther north, which would mean greater impacts for our area. Saturday looks mainly dry with mostly to partly cloudy skies. Chance of light snow Sunday, mainly later in the day and into Sunday night.

Not as cold Monday with mostly cloudy skies and flurries possible. Highs will be in the mid 30s. Chance of snow Tuesday, with light snow possibly lingering into Wednesday. Highs Tuesday look to be in the low 30s, then breezy and colder Wednesday with highs only in the teens. It could be even colder next Thursday with highs struggling just to reach 10F in many areas. Overnight lows would likely dip into the single digits above and below zero. It also looks breezy Thursday, which would make it feel even colder.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, but be sure to bundle up! -Bill Graul
