Bangor routs Royall for 7th consecutive Scenic Bluffs title

Bangor football shut out Royall 38-0 in Bangor Friday night to clinch the outright Scenic Bluffs Conference title for a record seventh-straight season.

The Cardinals break the previous conference record of six straight by De Soto in the 1980s.

“I’m really excited,” senior Hayden Lyga said. “We’ve all worked four years, most of us, and we’ve worked our butts off.”

“We had unfinished business,” said fellow senior and quarterback Hank Reader. “We don’t like sharing conference. We haven’t for a while and it’s not something we like to do, so we had that mindset tonight that we just had to come out and dominate again.”

The Cardinals won the battle in the trenches and ran over the Panther defense, racking up 155 rushing yards.

Zach Servais ran 13 times for 56 yards and Mathieu Oesterle carried 13 times for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Reader was 3 of 4 through the air for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Royall’s rushing duo of Jameson Bender and Zephyr Turner combined for 28 carries (14 apiece) for 85 yards.
