Bangor FFA donates produce to WAFER
Group gives more than 12,000 pounds of fresh produce
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse’s WAFER Food Pantry receives a large donation of both money and fresh produce Tuesday.
Bangor School System’s FFA group gave more than 12,000 pounds of fresh produce and $1,200. Thanks to the large food donation the pantry is able to offer unlimited produce to families and individuals that take advantage of WAFER’s services and share the fresh produce with other local pantries and meal sites.
Officials say offering fresh goods helps improve the health of people that use their services.
“They know that they are going to receive a food package of basic food staples. So, being able to offer fresh produce, we’re able to round out the food package and offer them fresh items instead of just processed or boxed, canned items,” said WAFER of La Crosse’s Executive Director Erin Waldhart.
This is the second year the Bangor FFA has donated to WAFER. Last year they donated more than 5,500 pounds of produce.
