Bangor back to work as the Cardinals prepare for season opener Thursday

The season opener cannot come soon enough for the Bangor football team. The Cardinals had their 2021 season cut short by rival Cashton in the playoffs, but for this team, the focus is on 2022. After a couple of weeks of practice, the team is ready for some competition that counts in the standings.

“We’re ready to go against somebody else now,” Head Coach Todd Grant said. “You never know until the lights are on how guys are going to react, so I’m eager to find out.”

“It’s hard to go practice for back to back weeks because you’re facing the same guys,” senior running back and linebacker Tanner Jones added. “The scrimmage we had last Friday was good to have, but I think this week we’re just ready to hit a new opponent.”

“We’ve seen ourselves for the last two weeks,” senior tight end and linebacker Dustin McDonald said. “We’re just ready for a real game. We’re ready to be out there against somebody else now.”

The Cardinals will get their chance Thursday night as Bangor kicks off the regular season on the road against Melrose-Mindoro.
