Bangor advances to D5 State title game with win over Hurley
Bangor boys basketball defeated Hurley 62-54 Friday morning at the Kohl Center to claim a spot in Saturday’s WIAA Division 5 State title game.
Both teams traded several large runs in the first half, with the Cardinals holding a 35-29 lead at halftime.
The Cardinals led by as much as nine early in the second half, but the Northstars then hit several consecutive three-pointers to take the lead. Both squads then traded the lead until Bangor closed the game with a 12-1 run.
Junior Dustin McDonald came up with a key steal inside the final minute with Bangor up three, and he would knock down both free throws. Junior Tanner Jones added several free throws in the final seconds to secure the win. Jones also hit several clutch threes down the stretch and finished with a team-high 18 points. Senior Will Reader had 14 points, most coming in the first half, and McDonald added 12 points.
Bangor will face top seed Randolph Saturday morning.
