Badgers’ Engram discusses potentially collaborative play-calling system

Wisconsin Badger football is in its first week of spring practice, so it’s new offensive coordinator Bobby Engram’s first extended look at getting to dig into his personnel.

Engram’s role also involves coaching the quarterbacks, and he says he’s impressed already with Graham Mertz’s approach mentally and physically.

But there’s been some confusion from the coaching staff this week on who’s going to have the most control over offensive play-calling–Engram or head coach Paul Chryst.

“I’m going to call plays, but how does that look in terms of collaborating? I don’t really know yet, because we’re just starting the spring,” said Engram Friday morning. “But Paul has a lot of wisdom, a lot of experience calling plays, so I’m going to lean on him, talk ball with him. What that looks like in real time in a game? I’m not sure yet.”

Wisconsin’s spring practice schedule continues over the next three weeks.
