La Crosse Hunger Task Force distributes ‘Badger Boxes’ featuring Wisconsin products

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Hunger Task Force of La Crosse and The Hunger Relief Federation partnered to distribute “Badger Boxes” to needy residents in the community.

The Hunger Task Force packed boxes with products that are all sourced within Wisconsin, including fresh cheese, produce, meats and eggs, among other produce.

“We got about 550 boxes to give away today, and this will continue through the end of the year,” said Shelly Fortner, executive director of the Hunger Task Force.

The effort was “not necessarily a one-time distribution at the Hunger Task Force, but starting in July through December, we will then be bringing the boxes to your county,” Fortner said.

The distributions are based on income, and all people need to pick up a Badger Box is proof of Wisconsin residence.
