BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron identified
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The World Health Organization says there’s a new Coronavirus variant showing up around the world.
It’s being called BA.2 and is defined as a sub-variant of Omicron.
So far, scientists have identified 8,000 cases of BA.2 in 40 countries.
“It seems to be slightly more transmissible than the original Omicron,” says Mayo Clinic Infection Disease Expert Raj Palraj. “It’s very new and everybody’s keeping a close eye on it, but there are no red flags for concern.”
Experts say they’re not seeing more severe illnesses from the BA.2 sub-variant.
