Awareness for sexual assault and resources on the rise thanks to race at UW-La Crosse

Awareness of sexual assaults is on the rise in La Crosse thanks to a race on the UW-La Crosse campus.

The campus Violence Prevention department hosted its 6th annual UWL Ultimate Race for Sexual Assault Awareness Thursday night. The event included a scavenger hunt-style race throughout campus, showing participants different campus resources for sexual assault.

While about 60 participants and 40 volunteers enjoyed the race, organizers say it’s really about learning and preparing for potential assaults.

“We’re teaching them what i sexual assault and what they can do if they are a bystander in a situation of sexual assault. We’re teaching them if they do know someone or if they themselves are involved in a sexual assault what they can do, what their next steps are,” said UWL Violence Prevention Assistant Natalie Bachmeier.
