Award-winning children’s book author teaches compassion and acceptance in La Crosse

A special lesson on tolerance, acceptance, diversity and love was brought to a group of La Crosse students on Monday, from an award-winning children’s book.

Patricia Polacco stopped by North Woods International School during a tour through Canada and the United States. The author and illustrator also uses her experiences to show students how people of all learning abilities can succeed.

“They’re looking at a learning-disabled student, who grew up and became an author. Some of them, they’re struggling with that when they’re children and I imagine they’re scared to death. They need to know they’re going to land on their feet. This is no big deal,” said Polacco.

Polacco has authored about 115 books… focusing on acceptance and caring.
