Available space for housing development in La Crescent shrinks
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — A proposed new housing development on the site of a former race track in La Crescent is shrinking after a recent study.
The ‘Horse Track Meadows’ housing project initially planned to develop 74 housing lots within La Crescent. A study of the proposed location found nearly a third of it meets state requirements for wetland status, narrowing development down to 52 lots, instead of 74.
Since the available property along County Road 6 is now smaller, the process and negotiations may need to start over.
“They’ll come back and notify us, and then it starts the clock ticking on when designs are to be submitted, and the range of meetings and approvals required through the planning commission,” said La Crescent Mayor Mike Poellinger.
Negotiations on the ‘Horse Track Meadows’ housing development began earlier this year.
