Authorities recover the body of a La Crosse man missing since February
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)– The body of a La Crosse man missing since February has been recovered. James Zaragoza’s body was found in the Mississippi River near Green Island.
The La Crosse Police Department said it responded to the end of Hanifl Road for the report of a possible body in the water at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Responding officers located Zaragoza’s body.
Zaragoza was last seen on Saturday, February 22 at 8 p.m. near the Catholic Charities Warming Center on 3rd Street in La Crosse.
During the initial investigation, police found his personal items near the north end of Houska Park. It appeared he had possibly walked out on the ice.
The La Crosse Police Department does not suspect foul play but will continue to investigate.
The department is waiting for the results of an autopsy for an official cause of death.
The La Crosse Area Dive Rescue, La Crosse County Sheriff Department, Shelby Police Department and La Crosse County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.
