Attempted Arson in Trempealeau leads to arrest

One man is in custody following an attempted Arson at a local church.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s department says 19 year old John Michael Humm was seen by witnesses early Sunday morning around St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in the Village of Trempealeau.

When police arrived, Humm was seen trying to start the church on fire.

Police eventually arrested Humm as he was trying to leave the scene.

The fire was immediately extinguished.

Humm is facing charges of arson, criminal damage to religious property, and resisting arrest.
