Area students donate bikes to Africa

'Logan Bike Works' program fix bikes, donate them

Middle school students are giving the gift of transportation to children in Africa.

It’s all part of the “Logan Bike Works” program.

Students at Logan Middle in La Crosse collected damaged bikes from our area and brought them to school where they worked after class repairing them.

Logan paired up with “Working Bikes” a non-profit organization that brings bikes to underserved areas to donate 50 bikes overseas. Staff says students get fulfillment through working on bikes, start to finish.

“They were just working on a bike and they were talking and one bike and one turns to the other and says wow this place is really magical, you know it gives them a lot of satisfaction to be able to work on the bikes,” said Logan Bike Works Supervisor Matthew Christen.

Students also raised two-thousand dollars for a bike distribution charity. Additional bikes go to students and people in our area.
