Area food banks look for donations as holidays draw near

As temperatures fall need for food rises

The holidays can be an especially difficult time for families in need.

Food banks like WAFER in La Crosse face high traffic around the holidays and need lots of the seasonal staples.

The weather can play a big factor too. As the temperature goes down, the need for food in the area increases.

“If people are really strapped when those heating bills start to come in next month from this recent very fast cold we could definitely see some increased need here,” said WAFER Executive Director Erin Waldhart.

Food banks are always looking for healthy snacks to give out, especially to families with kids. Low in sugar granola bars are a good choice because they keep well and they’re healthy, as well as canned fruits and vegetables.
