Area conference promotes ‘active transportation’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — According to the National Household Travel Survey 70 percent of all trips three miles or less are driven, but a one day conference in La Crosse is hoping to change that.
Those interested in trading in their car keys for alternative modes of transportation met at the ‘Midwest Active Transportation Conference’ Friday.
The goal of the conference is to encourage people to take part in active transportation, like walking or biking.
Organizers of the conference say the day is a way to remind people there are other ways to get around town.
“The conference is about trying to build a broader base of knowledge and accelerate the engagement of people in active transportation,” said Matthew Christen, founder of Urban Connections.
The conference is sponsored by UWL Continuing Education and Extension in partnership with Urban Connections.
