Area businesses prepare for Valentine’s Day

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Friday is Valentine’s Day, which is the busiest time of year for some local businesses.

Flower shops plan months in advance for the big day.

Some shops even preorder flowers and supplies before Christmas.

But believe it or not, the day Valentine’s falls on makes a big difference for the flower business.

“When Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend or even a Friday, it’s a softer holiday. Meaning there are not as many sales as during the week, because of the fact that not as many people are working, so flowers aren’t getting sent to work,” said Jen Jones, owner of Bittersweet Flower Market.

Jones says sending flowers to a loved one’s workplace is very popular, which is why she saw more sales earlier in the week.
