Area Boy Scouts learn life-long skills

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Area Boy Scouts are working toward their goals.

Merit Badge Day is a chance for Scouts to earn a variety of badges.

The hands-on classes teaches them leadership and important life skills.

Western Technical College students, faculty, and volunteers taught courses on Saturday, which included emergency preparedness, environmental science, and even chess.

One Scout says these are valuable skills to have.

“They help you learn skills for everyday life, like emergency preparedness. If someone got in a car crash and needed help, you have the knowledge and skills to help them,” said Andrew Horman, local Boy Scout.

There are over 135 different merit badges Scouts can earn.

Both boys and girls can join in on scouting programs.
