Angeline Rose Hofer
LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WKBT) — Angeline Rose Hofer, 88, of La Crescent passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at the Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. She was born July 10, 1932, the youngest of six children, on the family farm in rural La Crescent to William and Sophie (Truempi).
In her early years, she worked at Bob’s IGA in La Crescent. In 1955 she married James B. Hofer at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2020. They cherished the fact that both sides of their families contributed labor and materials to build the church they were eventually married in. The couple purchased a lot in La Crescent where they built their own home and lived there for almost 65 years.
Angeline enjoyed baking Christmas cookies, hunting and fishing. She found joy in seemingly simple activities such as picking, cracking and eating hickory nuts, as well as picking wild asparagus, watercress, black raspberries, blackberries and bittersweet. She loved to garden and can the produce she grew. She would share her harvests with friends and neighbors as often as possible.
Angeline and James instilled their love and respect for the outdoors and nature in their children. Angeline loved to help anyone and always cheered for the underdog. She tenderly and devotedly cared for her and James’ parents until God brought them home while at the same time lovingly raised her own family.
Angeline is survived by a son; George (Maggie) Hofer of Yuma, AZ; a daughter, Diane (G) Hofer of La Crosse; two grandsons, James and Louis Hofer, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband James, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bill, Harvey, Ernie and George Miller and a sister, Margaret Groen.
Graveside services will be on Saturday at Crucifixion Cemetery in La Crescent, with Deacon Bob Yerhot officiating.
