Altra Federal Credit Union honored for financial literacy programs
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A local credit union is recognized for educating kids and adults in financial literacy.
Altra Federal Credit Union received two Desjardins Awards; one for operating student credit union branches in La Crosse Central High School and in Holmen High School, and the other award for educating adults about their finances.
“We really feel it’s very important to provide financial education, to provide the resources and the tools. If people are able to manage their money a lot better, it really benefits everyone in the community. People know where their money is going, they’re able to pay their bills, have money into savings … they can spend that money back in the local economy. So it really makes sense for the community as a whole,” said the Financial Literacy Program Coordinator Tony Beyer.
Altra Federal Credit Union has more than 88,000 members nationwide and 1.1 billion in assets. It’s headquartered in Onalaska.
