ALERT DAY – Rain & Snow This Afternoon & Evening
Accumulating Snow North
Tuesday’s Forecast High: 41F / Tonight’s Low: 36F…
ALERT DAY for this afternoon and evening due to wintry driving conditions for parts of the viewing area. Mother Nature is providing another early taste of Winter across the Upper Midwest. Expect a cloudy and chilly day with highs only in the mid 30s (north) to mid 40s (south). The high temp in the La Crosse area will be right around 40F or so.
A storm system tracking in from the west will bring rain and snow late this morning into this afternoon. Accumulating snow is likely across northern sections of the viewing area and a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued. It includes Wabasha, Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, Clark, and Pepin counties. It’s in effect from around Noon today through about midnight tonight. A WINTER STORM WARNING has been issued for Eau Claire, Dunn and Chippewa counties.
Areas in the *Advisory* could see anywhere from 1″ to 5″ of snow… while 4″ to 6″ will be possible in the *Warning* area. Expect wintry driving conditions in these areas this afternoon and evening, including reduced visibility and slippery roads. Please use caution, especially since this is the first snowfall for most. The La Crosse area will see more rain than snow, with little if any snow accumulations expected at this time. Higher terrain and ridge tops around La Crosse could see a dusting to 1″ of snow.
The rain and snow should taper around midnight tonight, or shortly thereafter. Lows tonight will be in the low-mid 30s. Mostly cloudy and cool Wednesday with highs in the mid 40s. Slight chance for a few sprinkles or flurries in spots.
Another system will bring a good chance of rain and perhaps some thunderstorms late Wednesday night into Thursday. It will be briefly warmer Thursday with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Looking Ahead… Chance of rain showers lingering into Friday morning. Otherwise, Friday will be mostly cloudy and cooler again with highs in the mid 40s. Chilly for the weekend with highs only in the low 40s. Mostly cloudy and dry Saturday, then a slight chance of light snow or mix on Sunday.
Partly sunny and dry, but chilly next Monday and Tuesday with highs only in the upper 30s to around 40F. Lows will drop well into the 20s. Mostly cloudy next Wednesday with chilly highs in the upper 30s.
Have a good day, but use caution on the roads where snow falls today. -Bill Graul
