ALERT DAY – Chance For A Few Strong To Isolated Severe Storms
Remaining Hot & Humid Much Of This Week
Monday’s Forecast High: 91F / Tonight’s Low: 71F…
It was a hot & humid 4th of July holiday weekend with highs in the upper 80s to low-mid 90s. As advertised, there were isolated showers and t-storms both days… but they were much more “miss” than “hit”. The La Crosse airport has hit 90F or hotter on 6 days in a row, going back to June 30th.
Today the heat and humidity will continue with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. High humidity will likely again cause afternoon heat indices in the mid and possibly upper 90s for some.
ALERT DAY! An approaching cold front to our west will bring the chance for scattered showers and t-storms, mainly this afternoon and evening. There’s an outside chance for a few strong to isolated severe storms, especially across northern sections of the viewing area where the SPC has a LEVEL 2 severe risk in place. Gusty winds and hail would be the main threats, along with brief heavy downpours. Stay extra weather aware later today into this evening… just in case.
The chance for scattered storms will continue this evening, then taper to isolated showers around midnight. Otherwise, it will be another mild and muggy night with lows in the 60s to low 70s.
Hot and humid again Tuesday with highs in the mid 80s to around 90F. That cold front will stall just to our north and west, but close enough to bring at least a slight chance of showers and t-storms. Just isolated t-showers are possible Wednesday, but most areas will likely remain dry. Wednesday will likely be the hottest day of the week with highs ranging from the upper 80s to low-mid 90s.
Looking Ahead… Another front will bring a better chance of scattered showers and t-storms on Thursday. Just isolated t-showers are possible Friday. Temps will cool a little, with highs in the upper 80s.
Saturday is looking mainly dry at this point, with just isolated showers and t-storms possible Sunday. Highs look to top out in the mid-upper 80s. Next Monday and Tuesday look dry as of now, but toasty with highs around 90F.
Have a good Monday… and stay tuned for updates on the chance for any strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. -Bill Graul
