After tough year in SWAL, Luther football excited for new opportunity in hybrid schedule
Luther football was in a tough spot in the SWAL conference a year ago and ended up with just one win.
This year, they’re the only Scenic Bluffs team to play in fall, so they’ve formed a conference with similarly sized schools from the Ridge and Valley and Six Rivers.
It’s given way to more optimism heading into this fall season. Limited practice time does present challenges, however, as they adopt a new offensive scheme they believe will better fit returners like Lyndon Byus and new quarterback Dillon Yang.
“Last year we were in a pretty big conference with some really heavy hitters, so hopefully it’ll be a good change to go down to schools more our size,” senior wide receiver and safety Lyndon Byus said. “We’re saving some things from last year, so it’s not a complete change, but it’ll be fun to see how it goes. The younger guys are picking it up really well.”
Luther opens the season Sept. 25 at Boscobel.
