AARP Tax Aide Program offers help this tax season
1,700 people filed returns through the program last year
LA CROSSE, Wis, (WKBT) — Tax season is here and there is free filing help out there.
For example the La Crosse Public Library is once again the site of the AARP tax aide program in La Crosse County.
Anyone is welcome to come in and get help with preparing state and federal returns, but the program is geared toward middle and lower income taxpayers.
1,700 people filed returns through this program last year with the help of volunteers who have passed an IRS exam and gone through training.
“We do the initial preparation, we do the review, then we print the return. Then at night or the next day I will e-file the return, so all the returns are e-filed. There’s no charge for that,” says AARP Tax Aide Donald Frank.
Appointments are required. Call 608-789-7443.
The hours of operations are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 10 A.M. – 4 P.M. at the La Crosse Public Library at 800 Main Street.
