AARP research shows age discrimination in the workplace is growing

WISCONSIN (WKBT) — Workplace age discrimination is growing.

Recent AARP research shows 62% of workers over age 50 report seeing or experiencing discrimination when at work.

Experts say the issue is growing more prevalent since the COVID-19 pandemic, despite a clear lack of awareness.

“It’s one of those areas of discrimination that seems sadly all too common and accepted relative to other forms of discrimination out there and it is just as wrong and just as important for us to be vigilant about it,” said Bill Rivera, senior vice president of litagation of the AARP Foundation.

AARP says older workers should know their rights.

AARP is hosting a free Online Career Summit on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Participants can interact with employers and get access to expert panels, career resources and other job offerings.
