A warm welcome for returning soldiers

Approximately 150 soldiers from the Army National Guard's 829th Engineer Company returned home this past week

LA CROSSE, Wis (WKBT) – After serving overseas for roughly a year, Wisconsin national guard soldiers are finally home.

Approximately 150 soldiers from the Army National Guard’s 829th Engineer Company returned home this past week.

The company was mobilized in October of last year before beginning a construction mission overseas.

The soldiers were in many countries during their tour including Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

While the deployment was construction-based, that doesn’t take away from the sacrifice these soldiers made.

“There’s a lot of people who aren’t willing to do what they do, and they should be proud of that. That’s something they can take with them for the rest of their lives. that they’re now a veteran of the United States Army. And they know that they’ve gone overseas, into harm’s way, and served their country in a time of need,” said Major Joe Trovato, a spokesperson for the Wisconsin National Guard.

The Wisconsin National Guard has also seen deployments around Wisconsin to help with COVID testing as well as helping maintain peace during protests in Kenosha.
