A shining sun helps Rudy’s Drive-In’s opening day exceed expectations, says owner
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Saturday was finally the first day of the year to get root beer floats, cheeseburgers and more at La Crosse’s Rudy’s Drive-In.
Shelby Gramly, a customer at Rudy’s opening day, said the wait makes this yearly event a special occasion.
“It gives you that long wait over the winter… kind of gets you exited for when they open. It’s really just a great atmosphere to come with your friends or your family whenever you want to go out to get ice cream or something to eat. . . . Always there with a friendly–everyone’s so nice,” said Gramly.
Rudy’s spring opening is part of a more than 80 year tradition. Rudy’s owner, Gary Rudy, said he feels lucky customers always come back–more when it’s nice out.
“Oh definitely, we’re more of a fair weather place, so when the sun’s shining it’s always more fun to sit on the picnic tables or ride your bike,” said Rudy.
Rudy said the great weather made the turnout even better than what he expected.
