A new Ho-Chunk development could be coming to La Crosse’s River Point District

Ho-Chunk Nation is eyeing a parcel for a combination residential/commercial building

Ho-Chuck officials are exploring the possibility of building a high-rise in La Crosse’s ‘River Point District’ on Copeland Avenue.

The new development that’s being considered would include space for commercial and retail, apartments and condominiums as well as room for the Ho-Chunk regional offices and an area for youth services.

Ho-Chunk officials are currently in talks with La Crosse City officials about creating this 5 or 6 story building.

Ho-Chunk says this gives them the opportunity to diversify their investments and as they state in a news release “break away” from gaming.

In that same release, Ho-Chunk officials say La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat speaks in favor of the project and endorses a parcel of land being changed over to trust status so that the Ho-Chunk Nation would not have to pay property taxes.
