Surface Map

Good evening… we spent most of the day under clouds, but a few of us saw some peeks of sunshine this afternoon.

We are watching two different weather system that will impact the holiday weekend. The first is an area of low pressure aloft just to our southwest. The second is a cold front well west of the region.

Tonight's Forecast

Tonight's Lows NorthTonight's Lows SouthAs we head into tonight, look for a slight chance of a few evening sprinkles. By later tonight, that upper level low will approach the region. It could produce a few showers late, but most of them look to remain west of the Mississippi River. It will be a mild night as lows fall into the middle 50s to near 60 in the north and the upper 50s to lower 60s in the south.

Tomorrow's Highs South

Tomorrow's Highs North

That upper level low crosses the area tomorrow. The result will be occasional showers and a few t-storms. The good news is this system will quickly exit off to the north and east tomorrow evening. This will allow the rain to end during the early evening hours. Look for another mild night, with lows in the 50s to near 60.

Unfortunately, our next round of showers and t-storms arrives Sunday as a slow moving cool front approaches from the west. Rain Sunday looks to be a bit more scattered about. As a result, there may be some dry hours. It should also be noted that some computer models suggest the atmosphere may become “capped off.” Should this occur, our rain chances Sunday may need to be lowered. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. It will be a warm day ahead of that front, with most locations in the upper 70s to lower 80s. You will feel a bit more humidity, too. Rain chances will continue into Sunday night.

8 Day Forecast

Looking ahead… I wish I had better news for Memorial Day. But unfortunately, that cool front will still be west of the region, but it will be close enough for another round of widespread showers and t-storms. This front is a slow-mover, so expect the chance of showers and t-storms to continue Monday night.

As we head into Tuesday and beyond, look for the cool front to clear the area. However, we’ll see a series of weak disturbances track across the region through the rest of the week. The result will be at least a chance of showers and t-storms every day. If there is any good news, it is in the temperature department. Look for highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s through much of the week.
