A make-up of the first 26 positive COVID-19 cases in La Crosse County
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- The La Crosse County Health Department is providing more information about the make-up of the first 26 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. As of May 1, there are 29 confirmed cases.
- 76.9% of people were under 60 years old
- 63.6% had pre-existing health conditions
- 50% were female, and 50% were male
- 62% came from the city of La Crosse
- 19% were from Onalaska
- 19% were from other parts of the county
26.9% of cases in La Crosse County are being attributed to community spread, which the county defines as a case that was not attributed to a specific exposure to a positive or probable case or travel outside of the county.
These were the symptoms among the 26 positive cases:
- 84.6% Cough
- 82.4% Fever
- 61.5% Muscle aches
- 53.9% Chills
- 53.9% Shortness of breath
- 46.2% Headache
- 26.9% Runny nose
- 26.9% Sore throat
- 26.1% Loss of smell
- 15.4% Nausea
- 11.5% Abdominal pain
- 7.7% Diarrhea
“We have seen this introduction of the loss of taste and smell, which I think is a really interesting symptom, one many people wouldn’t normally think about,” said La Crosse Co. Health Dir. Jen Rombalski.
The data also showed that 15.4% of the 26 cases were considered “severe” which may or may not require hospitalization.
