A local library had a party for area Spanish speakers.

The Main Street Library of La Crosse held a ‘Festival De Español’, or Spanish Festival, Sunday.

Maria Hertel, a librarian at the La Crosse Main Library, said they wanted Spanish speakers in our community to know what resources the library has for them.

There were lessons on how to translate the library’s website to Spanish, find Spanish books through the Library’s catalog and use other online resources.

Hertel said they worked with volunteers to get more Spanish content and do a survey to find out how they could best serve the local Spanish community.

“It was just a good idea to kind of have a culminating event just to really open our arms and welcome everyone. We have the banners outside the library that say ‘Libraries Are For Everyone,’ and we just want to make sure that we stand behind that,” said Hertel.

There was also food from Senor Villa and bi-lingual story time.
