A local church brings a taste of the Mediterranean to the Mississippi

St. Elias Church on Copeland Avenue hosted the 44 th annual Mediterranean Festival today.

Ethnic food from a wide variety of countries was available. Syria, Lebanon and Egypt were represented in the cuisine; as well as Bulgaria, Russia, and the Ukraine.

The food available included chicken and lamb kabobs, lamb sandwiches and a falafel dinner. Festers could also get a sampler plate with hummus and stuffed grape leaves.

Those looking some something sweeter could taste deserts like Baklava and Middle Eastern ice cream sundaes, or they could chose from the selection at a bake sale organizers describe as being “huge”.

There was also entertainment from the Maritza Dance Band, Hugs the Clown, the Winona Folk Dance Troupe, and the Saint Elias Festival Singers.
