A.J. Hawk calls report that Aaron Rodgers wants GM Gutekunst fired ‘garbage’
Former Packers LB was with Rodgers at Kentucky Derby
The rift between Aaron Rodgers and the Packers continues.
Rodgers has yet to state anything on camera, but reports persist across national outlets, who cite sources close to Rodgers who say the QB is not happy and could even retire before playing again for the Packers.
A Yahoo report Saturday citing a source close to Rodgers said Rodgers won’t return unless the Packers fire GM Brian Gutekunst.
Former Packer and current Pat McAfee Show co-host A.J. Hawk was with Rodgers at the Kentucky Derby over the weekend. He says there’s “zero percent” chance Rodgers retires, and he also has a strong belief about the Yahoo report.
“That’s garbage too, I think,” Hawk said on the show. “I definitely do not think Aaron is out there trying to say, ‘Fire Gutey.'”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reported Monday the “final straw” for Rodgers may have been the Packers releasing wide receiver Jake Kumerow in September 2020 a day after Rodgers had praised Kumerow’s work in the preseason.
“And then Rodgers I’m told also wanted to be more involved in some of the personnel decisions,” Rapoport said. “It’s crazy, but it does seem the one thing that drove Rodgers nuts is when the organization released Jake Kumerow just a day after Rodgers praised him publicly, described as a bit of a death-knell in the relationship.”
