A healthy diet and exercise can help to prevent the top two causes of death
A new JAMA study says the prevention of heart disease and cancer can be helped with the right diet and exercise
A new study released by JAMA today talks about how research shows that establishing a heart healthy lifestyle can help prevent the number 1 and 2 causes of death in the U-S.
That’s both heart disease and cancer.
The study shows a healthy diet and regular exercise can help prevent both.
Dr. Mohamed Omer is an Interventional Cardiologist at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse and points out the need for eating the right food and getting enough exercise each week to help prevent disease.
“Physical activity and there are certain definition for that like 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise or if you’re going to the gym then it is 75 minutes of vigorous activity. And then there is a certain diet you should follow, one of the best diets is the Mediterranean diet,” according to Dr. Omer.
Dr. Omer also says to keep your total cholesterol under 200 and that a healthy blood pressure level is near 120 over 80.
