7th annual La Crosse County Health Summit held
Leaders look at strengths, weaknesses of county's health rankings
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Leaders and health officials are thinking of ways to make La Crosse County healthier.
The 7th annual County Health Summit was held Friday morning at Western Technical College in La Crosse.
The summit is a chance to talk about where the county is doing well in improving its overall health, as well as areas that need more work. Health officials say the county is doing well when it comes to addressing tobacco and risky alcohol use, but could do better when it comes to dealing with mental health and obesity.
La Crosse mayor Tim Kabat says the event is a good way to focus on those areas that still need improvement.
“Raising that awareness level is really important, and that is a key ingredient for events like today,” said Mayor Kabat. “There’s also the fact that we’re optimistic, and yet we still realize that we’ve got a ways to go when it comes to some of these issues.”
La Crosse County ranks 19th out of 72 when it comes to healthiest counties in Wisconsin.
