41 years of La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Decades of community service all comes down to one meal.

The La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner has been a local tradition for 41 years.

Volunteers make a traditional holiday meal, with dishes including turkey, mashed potatoes and rolls, and of course pie.

They also offered other activities like a non-denominational worship service before dinner and a kids craft table.

Organizers say a lot has changed since the first dinner in 1982.

“We had 300 volunteers and served 100 people, now we have upwards of 700 volunteers and serve 1000,” said Board Vice President of the La Crosse Community Dinner Vince Ristow.

One thing has stayed consistent, this dinner wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner serves about 3,000 meals each year.
