40% turnout in expected in La Crosse Co. for recall election

LA CROSSE, Wis.–  It is the calm before the storm.  Those are the words of the La Crosse County clerk as her department prepares for Tuesday’s unprecedented recall election.

The county clerk’s office is getting ready for Tuesday night when votes need to be tallied after the 32nd senate district recall election between Senator Dan Kapanke and his democratic challenger Jennifer Shilling.

The county clerks says she expects this election to be just as busy as any other election night.  They are preparing for a 40% voter turnout and wouldn’t be surprised if the county hit 50%.

Already, the clerk’s office has seen a very heavy amount of absentee voting.  “We’re not sure if that was people who normally go to the polls, but because its summer they voted absentee or if it was new people that got because of all the publications and mailings that were sent out to the different organizations,” says La Crosse Co. Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer.
