3 La Crosse Co. bridges to be reconstructed using one-time state grant

TOWN OF BARRE, Wis. (WKBT)- Three bridges in La Crosse County will be soon redone, thanks to a one-time state transportation grant.

The $310,000 in grant money will be used to strengthen the load-restricted bridges in the towns of Barre and Farmington.

La Crosse County was one of 152 local communities awarded a grant.

The bridges are located at County T and Fleming Creek and County YY and I, both over Bostwick Creek.

Once construction is complete, it will eliminate the weight restrictions on those bridges which have caused significant detours for farmers and other businesses in the area.

“For local people, when you have the farmers in the area doing better, the construction companies in the area doing better, it ripples through the economy and helps everybody in the entire region,” said Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson.

Construction on the bridges could start by the end of this year.
