3 arrested for armed robbery at Sparta tavern
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — Authorities in Monroe County arrested three Sparta residents Wednesday in connection to an armed robbery at the Wayside Tavern in Sparta.
Sparta police responded to a report of an armed robbery at about 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 11. Police said the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from an employee of the tavern.
Twenty-seven-year-old David C. Walton, 27-year-old Cody D. Nelson, and 23-year-old Courtney L. Stalsberg were booked into the Monroe County Jail on Wednesday, June 24. They face charges for their role in the armed robbery. They are scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon when more information is expected to be released.
Sparta police said most of the money that was taken in the robbery has been recovered, along with the weapon that was used.
The Monroe County Joint Investigative Task Force, made up of officers from the Sparta, Tomah and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, helped Sparta police complete the investigation.
