2018 football preview: Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca Blue-Golds

Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca captured their first conference championship as a co-op last season as they went undefeated in Ridge and Valley Conference play.

The Blue-Golds could once again be the team to beat.

Five first team all-conference selections return including senior quarterback Jared Payne who has been a starter at that position since midway through his freshman season.

“Jared did an outstanding job both ways, he just has the instincts,” said head coach Justin Goodrich. “He knows when to pass. When no routes are open he just goes and runs it and he puts his shoulder pads down and goes. He’s not afraid of contact. He just loves the game of football and the kids respect him and he’s just all in.”

Fellow senior Nate Benish is excited to move into the starting lineup at wing back and play alongside his friend.

“Jared has always been an outstanding leader and oustanding player for us. He knows how to get guys to follow him and rally around him. This year will probably be one of his better years, it’ll be our first year since 8th grade me and him will be standing together the whole year so I’m really excited for that.”
