2016 Football Preview: G-E-T Redhawks

G-E-T’s goal in 2015 was to make it back into the playoffs.

After missing out the year prior for the first time in over a decade, the Redhawks qualified for the WIAA postseason with a record of 3-2 in the Coulee Conference before losing their Level 1 game.

With that taste once again of playoff football, G-E-T in 2016 is out to try to pick up the program’s first playoff victory since 2009.

“A lot of work, just a lot of hard work and everybody building team chemistry,” said senior Kody Gunderson.

“You’ve got to be conditioned. You’ve got to make sure you’re healthy. You’ve got to make sure that everybody wants to be there, everybody giving it their all all of the time,” added senior Brett Hoff.

Head coach Jon Steffenhagen will once again have a large class of seniors to turn to, as inexperienced as they may be.

“We lost a lot of experience last year. We sent out 16 seniors last year, we’ve got 17 seniors coming back in but a lot of the seniors that are stepping into new roles haven’t had a lot of varsity experience.

“So it will be interesting in how the gel together and it’s going to take some time and take it week by week. That’s what we’ve got to do.”

G-E-T will host old Coulee Conference foe West Salem in Week 2. The rivalry game will be called ‘The Battle for the Paddle’.
