$200,000 could be added to effort to bring new shelter to La Crosse’s Weigent Park
Neighborhood leaders say the current shelter doesn't meet the community's needs.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – $200,000 could be coming for a new shelter in La Crosse’s Weigent Park.
The money if approved as part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan would mean the project has a total of $600,000 in funding.
Neighborhood leaders say the current shelter doesn’t meet the community’s needs.
“The bathrooms are padlocked. There is no meeting room as such. There’s not a shelter as we think of it. It’s basically a storage shed with an overhang,” said Weigent-Hogan Neighborhood Association president Linda Lee.
The budget will go before the common council next month.
