2 emaciated dogs dumped alongside central Iowa road

A reward is being offered to help find whoever is responsible for two emaciated dogs that were found alongside a rural road in central Iowa.

They were found Monday by a passing motorist just northwest of Maxwell in Story County. They were taken to the Story County Animal Shelter in Nevada.

The two dogs are described as adult male and female purebred boxers that weighed 20 and 22 pounds. The shelter’s Sue McCaskey says the normal weight for adult boxers ranges from 55 to 75 pounds.

The dogs are so weak they can barely stand on their own.

The neglect of the dogs is being investigated as a crime.

Shelter supporters have been adding to the award, which has reached around $800.
