17 central air conditioning units stolen in La Crosse area

Units stolen from churches, businesses

Seventeen central air conditioning units were stolen from La Crosse area churches and businesses in a little more than a week.

La Crosse police said the thieves have been cutting power and refrigerant lines and removing the entire central air conditioning unit. Police believe the units are being disassembled and the metal is being salvaged.

The air conditioning units weigh more than 150-pounds, so a truck or large type of vehicle is likely being used to haul them, police said.
