1,500 people needed for U.S. Census positions in La Crosse
500,000 needed nationwide for Census count
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Job opening ahead of the 2020 Census is leading to a need for applicants in La Crosse County.
The U.S. Census Bureau has about 500,000 temporary positions across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count.
Census statistics determine the number of seats each state holds in the U-S House of Representatives.
The statistics will also guide lawmakers in directing billions of dollars in federal funds.
The work that census workers do will impact the area for years to come.
“The more accurate count we have, the more people that fill it out, the more people we can have counted here, the more of a chance we have of being eligible for more funding coming back this way,” said Timothy Acklin, senior planner for the City of La Crosse.
