11 kittens found inside plastic tote in van; woman arrested

A Richland Center woman has been arrested in conjunction with an animal abuse complaint.

The Viroqua Police Department reports Sue Sheire, 56 of Richland Center was arrested after officers were called to the 200 block of South Rock for an animal abuse complaint.

Upon officer’s arrival, witnesses told them that numerous kittens had been found in a van, inside a plastic tote.

When the door to the van was open, two adult cats ran out, and have not been recovered.

A total of 11 kittens were found in the covered tote. One of the kittens was deceased and they all were covered with fleas and appeared to have worms.

The tote was covered with a plastic cover with what appeared to be air holes in the top made with a knife.

Two of the remaining kittens have since died. The remaining 8 are under a Vet’s care and are expected to survive.
